TOUR INFORMATION

Corsica is a fantastic destination and incredible place to ride your bike. It is however quite a distance from the UK and does contain some reasonably high mileage days. Therefore in order to cover the distance there is unfortunately no alternative but to use the Autoroute system for some of the journey. The Autoroute’s on the continent are far quieter and more relaxed than in the UK and therefore travelling these distances is much easier than you may imagine.

Due to some high mileage days and challenging rural and mountain roads this tour would be suitable for riders who are used to covering long distances and understand and accept the above.

TOUR ITINERARY

Day 1: 395 Miles

The tour starts as you board the early morning euro tunnel crossing and join the French motorway system. With regular stops along the way you quickly pass Reims, Troyes and Dijon before reaching the Burgundy region of France and your first hotel of the tour. Located just a few minutes from the motorway the contemporary 19th century hotel is the perfect place to unwind after your first day.

Day 2: 310 Miles

Although you must cover a few more miles on the motorway you will soon be on the more bike friendly rural roads. The day ends with you riding a section of the Route Napoleon which has been voted by many as one of the best motorcycling roads in the world.

Day 3: Ride-Out 170 Miles

Today you can choose to relax and discover the surrounding area, take to the rapids for an adventurous rafting session down the Gorges or take the suggested ride-out into the French Alps. Alternatively you may take the challenge of climbing the many steps which lead to the Notre Dame du Roc which towers 200 metres over the Marcel Sauvaire square and offers excellent views of the surrounding countryside.

Day 4: 215 Miles

You now head for the overnight ferry to Corsica via the Verdon Gorge. The Gorge is a spectacular canyon with walls that rise 12,000 feet from the Verdon River below. Your journey continues as you take the Mediterranean coast road to the Italian port town of Savona where you take the overnight ferry to Corsica.

Day 5: 95 Miles

Leaving the port of Bastia behind you head north on the open sweeping roads of the eastern side of the Cap Corse peninsula. A completely different riding experience awaits as you cross to the western side of the peninsula. The gentle slopes of the eastern side are now replaced with towering cliffs, switchback curves and breathtaking views over the Mediterranean Sea.

Day 6:

No ride-out is supplied today therefore you are free to make your own itinerary.

Day 7: 150 Miles

Today you are back on the bike as you explore Corsica's central mountain range. You first ride through the Gorges de Spelunca followed quickly by the Scala di St. Regina whose granite walls are a formidable sight as they plunge to the river far below. This area is dominated by Monte Cinto which at 2706 metres is the highest mountain on the island and one of the most prominent peaks in Europe. You continue on deserted mountain roads and cross the Col de la Serra towards Col de Sorba which are as challenging as they are picturesque. Eventually you head west and descend from the mountains towards the coast and the birth place of Napoleon Bonaparte, Ajaccio. Located a few miles south of Ajaccio and just 100 metres from the beautiful Agosta Beach your modern four star hotel offers breathtaking sea views.

Day 8 & 9: Ride-Out 75 Miles

For the next two days you are free to choose your own itinerary. Choose to relax by the pool, visit the nearby town of Ajaccio or take the suggested ride-out which is included in your tour pack.

Day 10: 185 Miles

Suitably rested you experience superb views as you cross Corsica via the Col de Verde Mountain pass. Leaving the mountains behind you now take the much easier coast rode back to Bastia for the overnight ferry back to France.

Day 11: 210 Miles

Following your arrival in Toulon you immediately head north to Mont Ventoux which has long been one of the challenges of the Tour de France. Your day ends riding through the Ardeche Gorge whose impressive limestone cliffs wind back and forth and present spectacular views of the canyon below.

Day 12: 190 Miles

Today sees you enter the Cevennes National Park towards another of nature's wonders, the Gorges Du Tarn. The gorge itself rises over 1,600 feet from the valley floor and is more than 3000 feet wide. To complete the day you continue under and over the famous Millau Bridge. This British designed structure attracts thousands of tourists a year and quite rightfully so. The central pillar is higher than the Eiffel Tower and it is possibly one of the most breathtaking bridges ever built.

Day 13: 290 Miles

You now continue to the Auvergne national park which contains no less than four chains of extinct volcanoes which have shaped the landscape and resulted in some excellent biking roads. The town of Orleans in the Loire is your final destination and your hotel is situated directly on the banks of the River. The old town is only a short walk away where you find plenty of bars and restaurants and if you want to take in a few sights there is the fabulous Sainte Croix cathedral, comparable only to Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.

Day 14: 265 Miles

Following breakfast you take mainly rural roads through France before eventually joining the motorway system to Calais and your return crossing to Folkestone.

INSURANCE
It is recommended that all clients take out appropriate Personal Travel, Accident and Breakdown cover. This is essential for repatriation of yourself and your motorcycle in the event of an accident or medical emergency.

Just wanted to say thank you very much for a brilliant trip. I am well aware of the amount of hours of planning and organisation that each trip must take you to do. Thank you for your diligence and hard work. The roads were amazing.
