TOUR INFORMATION

No motorcyclist likes travelling long distances on the motorway but for this tour we have taken the decision to extend the mileage on the first day in order to allow more time at the final destinations. We have been using this route on our guided tours for some time and everyone agrees that covering this mileage is not as difficult as it would first appear. The Autoroute system on the continent is far quieter and more relaxed than in the UK and therefore the miles pass by quicker than you can imagine.

This tour does contain some reasonable high mileage days and some challenging roads in the Mountains. Therefore this tour would be suitable for riders who are used to covering long distances and understands and accepts the above. Although some of the days are quite long you stop at two of the destinations for three nights so there is ample opportunity to rest and relax along the way.

TOUR ITINERARY

Day 1: 386 miles

The tour starts as you exit the Euro tunnel at Calais and join the French motorway systems. Located just a few minutes from the motorway your modern 4 star hotel is the perfect place to unwind after your first day. If required we can book the Euro tunnel a day earlier enabling you to extend your holiday and also half the first day’s mileage.

Day 2: 247 Miles
Free of the motorway system you cross the Rhine River and enter the Black Forest of Germany. Your route takes you down a section of the B500 which is probably one of the most famous biking roads in Europe. Leaving the forest behind the alpine peaks now beckon and you enter Austria via the 5 mile long Pfänder Tunnel and the Arlbergpass. Your luxury four star hotel features an indoor swimming and outdoor rooftop pool, sauna, steam bath and relaxation area.

Day 3: Ride or Rest Day
The Austrian Alps are a place of incredible natural beauty with outstanding biking routes in every direction. Numerous ride-outs are supplied in your tour pack including the Stelvio, Kaunertal Glacier, Timmelsjoch and Bielerhöhe. Alternatively if you prefer to take a break from the bike you could ride the spectacular Alpine Coaster in nearby Imst, visit Innsbruck or take the local cable car to the top of the mountain.

Day 4: Ride or Rest Day

As above

Day 5: 209 Miles
Today you leave Austria behind via the Renchen pass and the road signs and landscape begin to change as you continue south to your next destination, Lake Garda. The lake was formed by the glaciers at the end of the ice age and is the largest lake in Italy. Your hotel tonight is located at a small harbour which sits within a few metres of the Lake side.

Day 6: Ride or Rest Day- Ride Out 103 Miles
Although you are of course free to organise your own itinerary the supplied ride-out today will take you into the surrounding mountains and to the Bocca Navene Cafe which at 5000 feet offers incredible views over the lake and to the distant Alps.

Day 7: Ride or Rest Day
Today you could take the ferry across the lake, visit Verona which is only 17 miles away or simple relax.

Day 8: 186 Miles
Following a short Autoroute section you turn north and head along the banks of Lake D'Iseo. Taking only rural roads you enter the twisty Delle Orobie Bergamasche national park. Continuing further north though the park you first reach the serene shores of Lake Como before finally arriving at your hotel overlooking the beautiful Lake Lugano. The hotel has been run by the same family since 1910 and is located in a small village nestled along the northern shore of the lake. The hotel permeates an old style charm with a pergola covered restaurant positioned directly on the lake.

Day 9: 175 Miles
Leaving the lake behind you now turn westward towards Switzerland and France and cross the Simplon Pass which over the years has been used by smugglers and mercenaries and even Napoleon. Surrounded by the peaks of the French Alps you wind your way through spectacular scenery and sweeping roads before arriving at a 4 star hotel in Chamonix Mont Blanc.

Day 10: 290 Miles
Today’s route first takes you through the Rhone Alps towards Geneva and onward to the Franche Comté region which is acclaimed for its rolling fields, dense forests and of course the Jura Mountains. For your last night we have selected a hotel located in the centre of the medieval town of Troyes. With its multi-coloured rows of timber-framed houses and its maze of narrow streets and alleyways this is the perfect place to spend your last night.

Day 11: 250 miles
Following breakfast you take a leisurely route through the Champagne vineyards before joining the motorway system back to the Euro tunnel at Calais. Euro Tunnel times are flexible and can be changed to suit individual requirements.
