TOUR INFORMATION

This fantastic self guided motorcycle tour has no particularly high mileage days and therefore would be suitable for anyone. The riding as always can be challenging but if you are an experienced rider or a competent first timer this tour could be ideal. If you wish to explore more of these fabulous regions you can always extend your holiday to explore more of Austria and the Black Forest regions.

Due to weather conditions and winter snowfall in the Austrian Alps we would only recommend this tour from late May onward. If the area has experienced a severe winter then some of the passed may still be closed which would affect the enjoyment of your tour. Please do not hesitate to contact us for more information or to discuss any aspect of our tours.

TOUR ITINERARY

Day 1: 280 miles

The old cliché ‘It’s all about the Journey, not just the destination’ is never more true as your journey to the Alps becomes all part of the adventure. And today the adventure begins as you depart the Euro tunnel and make a quick transit across Belgium and start to experience the sweeping forest roads of Luxembourg

Your onward journey continues through the town of Bastogne where in the harsh Christmas of 1944 the men of Easy Company (Band of Brothers) held the line around the town against the attacking German forces. Your final destination today is a beautiful hotel located in the Moselle-Saar-Ruwer region of Germany

Day 2: 238 miles
The second day starts as you follow the Mosel River before entering the Pfalzer & Saar Hunsruck National Parks. With winding traffic free roads it is no wonder this area attracts bikers from across Europe.

Continuing south along quiet rural roads you eventually enter the Baden-Wurttemberg region of Germany.  Following a period on the Autobahn system to pass the busy cities of Karlsruhe and Stuttgart you are soon back enjoying the open roads of the German countryside. Your hotel for the evening is a traditional 15th Century building in the centre of the picturesque and cultural town of Blaubeuren.

Day 3: 160 miles

The landscape changes dramatically as the Austrian Alps now become visible in the distance. En-route to your hotel you will have the opportunity to visit the Neuschwanstein or "Cinderella Castle" which allegedly is the inspiration for the famous Sleeping Beauty castle at Disneyland. The Austrian Alps are a place of incredible natural beauty and your luxury hotel with indoor swimming pool, sauna and steam room is located right in the middle of the action enabling you to make the most of this breathtaking country.

Day 4 - 6 (83 to 180 miles)
The next three days are ‘ride or rest’ days were you choose your own itinerary. Various ride-outs are supplied in your tour pack enabling you to mix and match as required. Ride the impressive Stelvio pass with its 48 hairpin bends or cross into to Italy via the mighty Timmelsjoch. Other highlights are the Kaunertal Glacier, Hahntennjoch and Bielerhöhe passes. If you prefer to take a break from the bike an exciting option could be to ride the spectacular Alpine Coaster in nearby Imst or take the cable car to the top of the mountain. If you fancy a small excursion the nearby railway station can take you directly to the Olympic City of Innsbruck. With so many excellent passes to ride and places to visit you will probably wish you had stayed longer, this of course can be arranged.

Day 7: 195 miles
After four fantastic nights in Austria it’s time to head north and enjoy traditional Germany hospitality deep in the Black Forest. The Black forest is home to the Schwarzwald Höhenstrasse or B500 as it is better known and with perfectly engineered tarmac and banked corners it must certainly have been designed by a motorcyclist.

Although you only spend one night in the Black Forest your pre-planned route will take you along a section of this famous road. As mentioned before we can arrange additional nights in the area if required.

Day 8: 247 miles
Today you cross back into France and continue through the Vosges Du Nord National Park and onward to the twisty traffic free roads of the Forest d’Orval. Your final hotel is located on the banks of the Semois River in the unspoilt town of Bouillon. Overlooked by the imposing Castle of Godefroid this is the perfect end to your Austrian adventure.

Day 9: 225 miles
Following breakfast your onward journey winds along the meandering Semois and Meuse rivers before entering Belgium and the motorway system back to Calais and the return Euro Tunnel crossing back to Folkestone. Euro Tunnel times are flexible and can be changed to suit individual requirements.
